Good Things Come To Those Who End Relationships

Breakups suck. It’s a fact and there is no way of getting around it unless you decide to marry into a happily-ever-after or stay single and grow into an old, crazy cat lady. The worst part isn’t that you’ve been dumped, but that the time you wasted on whatshisface could have been spent on yourself. Now look at you. If you’re reading this then chances are either your heart or someone else’s has just been kicked in the ass and you’ve turned to good ol’ Google to give you some guidance.

Now, before I begin to list the magical remedies that are going to cure you overnight, I want to share with you a quote I once heard: “When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” Translation: Move. On. Don’t keep thinking about the past and wondering what went wrong because it’s not going to fix a thing. If anything, you’re just going to drive yourself crazy.

And now, without further ado, I present to you 6 tips to help get you back on track after a breakup. So, put on some Taylor Swift and and take out a notepad.

1.Don’t mope around. I know that you shared a lot with this person and probably thought that they were going to be the one, but there is no use crying over spilt milk. What you had may have been beautiful and the best thing to happen to you since Myspace, but keep in mind that after Myspace there was Facebook. Instead of laying around all day and scarfing down ice cream and Cheetos, you can use this as a chance to better yourself.

2.Exercise. It is a well known that exercise is beneficial not only for your physical health, but emotional and mental as well. Exercise helps with anxiety, depression, insomnia, and an array of other things that sucks to have. All you need to do is a minimum of 10 minutes a day to get your blood pumping and endorphins rushing. Remember, there is no better revenge than proving you can do better without them by getting in shape.

3.Set goals for yourself. You two most likely spent a lot of time with each other making plans for the future. Unfortunately, you guys won’t be attending that one class to learn how to do that one thing. Instead, make your own plans, set your own goals, and follow your aspirations. If there is anything you wanted to change or improve in your life then now is the time. And if you do happen find yourself in another relationship remember, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice work, school, friends, family, or health just to make someone happy. Don’t forget about you.

4.Glam yourself up. Just because you’re no longer in a relationship doesn’t mean you can’t look good. One of the best things to do after a breakup is to reinvent yourself. Wanna go for a cut that says you’re cool and edgy? Get it. Have a sudden urge to dress like Audrey Hepburn and wear some cat-eye shades? Go for it. There is absolutely no reason why you should not look your best. None.

5.Go out. This one might take a while to get to and may be uncomfortable a first, but once you do you’ll wonder why you never did it sooner. Now, I’m not saying to hit up a club, down a line a Patron shots, and twerk the night away; but you should have some fun. Don’t look it as a night out to meet men but as a good time out with the girls. Remember that it’s a process and not to put pressure on yourself.

6.Be yourself. There’s only so much you can learn on the internet about moving on from a relationship and most of it you probably already know. If there is one thing from this list to take with you it’s that no matter what happens you should always remain true to yourself. Don’t let anyone try to change you – unless you’re addicted to crack – because once you lose your identity it’s hard to get it back

Some days are going to be harder than others and that’s okay. Whatever decisions you make in your life, remember that as long as you do what you want and what’s best for you then you’re already on the right track. To summarize what you’ve just read I offer you three little words to live by: you do you.
